Walking on the beach near Florence, Oregon, with my friends Angela and Wesley, we found 40 unbroken sand dollars. Scattered along a mile-long stretch, with loads of broken ones. It was amazing to find so many in great condition in one place. We’d hiked this beach many times, and hiked over the dunes on the way back to the car, never finding more than a few sand dollars that hadn’t been battered by the surf. We took them home to display on our window sills and to give to friends. This photograph was originally photographed in color. I converted it to black and white in iPhoto later for publication in a local literary magazine.
This is a great photo and it makes me want to do some work in black and white. Fantastic.
Finally, a guy who doesn’t pass the buck! Nice find, nice photo.
I too love black and white photo work. but tell me, do you have to microwave the dollars to kill what’s living inside? Or is there a resident?
Dear Gary Sharp,
I think that is very cool. I have many shells, including sand dollars. One has holes in it and on the side. Me and my gramm think it is called a tiny sand dollar.
