Crankster

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Great set of cartoons in the Nov. 1 New Yorker from Roz Chast, long a favorite of mine. Here you’ll see a selection of six ‘toons from:

Crankster: “Selected images from ‘Crankster, the Anti-Social Site for Networking’ by Roz Chast.”

The two-page cartoon in the print version has 24 of Chasts’ social misfits. What a fun sendup of Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Leavenworth Jackson Rubber Stamps

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

For over ten years I’ve been buying artful, superbly crafted rubber stamps from Leavenworth Jackson. LJ’s catalog has over 400 great stamps featuring animals, flowers, cool sayings, and literary characters (like Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland). These rubber stamps are the best I’ve found anywhere. They add zest and fun to my mailings to friends and family.

Overheard

Overhead at a meeting of the Spirit Fish Verbal Construction Company last night:

“He’s about two sandwiches shy of a picnic.”

Nice group of people (thanks for the moment of humor, Dave!). I contribute photos for Spirit Fish publications. Here’s a second look at the cover photo I did for the Spirit Fish anthology of stories, poems, and essays that was published in November:

Vote for Annoying Celebrities

Vote for your favorite annoying celebrities at Am I Annoying

I was surprised to see the great, reclusive author Thomas Pynchon listed. I certainly had no problem seeing U.S. President George Bush included, the ultimate annoying politician. Trivial fun.

How Many Members of the Bush Administration Does it Take to Change a Light Bulb?

Tuesday, October 19th, 2004

The answer is ten:

1. One to deny that a light bulb needs to be changed,

2. One to attack the patriotism of anyone who says the light bulb needs to be changed,

3. One to blame President Clinton for burning out the light bulb,

4. One to tell the nations of the world that they are either for changing the light or for total darkness,

5. One to give a billion dollar no-bid contract to Halliburton for the new light bulb,

6. One to arrange a photograph of Bush, dressed as a janitor, standing on a step ladder under the banner “Light Bulb Change Accomplished”,

7. One administration insider to resign and write a book documenting in detail how Bush was literally “in the dark”,

8. One to viciously smear #7,

9. One surrogate to campaign on TV and at rallies on how George Bush has had a strong light-bulb-changing policy all along,

10. And finally… One to confuse Americans about the difference between screwing-in a light bulb and screwing the country.
